Last dinner out at Il Campanile and last field hockey game | Merels week #3
Last week began with some dreary days, but the last days of the week were full of summer. I worked at home with Julia, went out to dinner and played the last field hockey game of the season. Ooh and I accidentally took a detour home because I was too distracted by a phone conversation with my mom and low-flying hot air balloons. Monday This week started with a day off for a change and that was wonderful. I finally had time to finish some overdue to do’s like my administration. Also, my dad came over to hang some picture…

First dinner with my dining group and 900 cups of lemonade | Merels week #2
Monday After the weekend, I always have to get used to the fact that the work week has started again. Luckily we started the day with cake because we wanted to unveil the new logo of one of our products. That afternoon we had sausage rolls to celebrate a colleague’s 10 years of service. I declined those because I consciously choose to eat meat at most once a week. That evening I did a pilates class at the gym and did a few things for my blog. Tuesday A perfectly normal work day and at the end of the day…

Pancakes in Amsterdam: brunch at the Breakfast Club
If I had to choose a favorite breakfast it would surely be a stack of pancakes. (Confession: or just something from a bakery in Paris). Sometimes I bake them myself, but I find it even more fun (and easy) to eat pancakes at a nice breakfast place. Especially when I’m in Amsterdam for the weekend and I’ve been to the Breakfast Club a few times. Where, as the name suggests, you can order breakfast dishes all day long. So I ate Pancakes in Amsterdam. Every now and then I combine a concert with a weekend in Amsterdam. And since a…

Cheap hotel in Paris: Campanile Paris Est – Pantin
Paris is an expensive city, so every Euro you can save is one. During my city break, I stayed in a cheap hotel in Paris. (Or well, just off the periferique, but very close to the metro). I shared my room with a friend and for four nights we paid €304. I would like to share my experience with this hotel. Ernestina and I booked our Paris city break more than four months before departure. We chose a weekend in April because we were hoping for nice weather but not too many tourists. Initially we had booked an Airbnb, but…

Merels week #1
It’s been pretty quiet on my blog for quite a while. But now that I’ve blown out 29 candles, I know it for sure: I’m restarting my blog. I’m excited to write articles again, and share not only about my travels, but just everyday life. So here we go! Monday The new work week has started, and I’ve worked at the office for the day (which is pretty standard). All day long I thought I was going to pilates class after work, but by the end of the afternoon I realized I wouldn’t have been able to make it to the…

Good restaurant in Bruges Chagall
While visiting the Belgian city of Bruges, a dinner in a local restaurant should not be missed. After virtually visiting quite a few restaurants, our choice fell on restaurant Chagall on Sint-Amandsstraat. Mainly because the menu sounded good and most of the reviews are almost positive. The Sint-Amandsstraat is in my opinion one of the nicest streets in Bruges. The street is car-free, which makes it extra nice to walk through it. When you walk all the way down the street you end up at the Grote Markt. In the street you see mostly brick houses with stepped gables. A…

Paris restaurant tip: Pink Mamma
There are thousands of restaurants in Paris, so choosing where to eat can be quite a challenge. Since I have spend a lot of time in Paris, I have visited quite some restaurants in the city and I want to share some of my favorites with you. One restaurant that had been on my wish list for a long time is Pink Mamma. But I have visited two of the locations and I can’t wait to go back again. Officially, one of the locations of the Big Mama Group is called Pink Mamma. But since it is the most famous,…

Rooftop terrace in Prague: Terasa U Prince
The Instagram hotspot in Prague is the rooftop terrace of Hotel U Prince. The rooftop terrace is described as one of the most photogenic spots in Prague. During my city trip with Ernestina, we decided that our visit to the Czech capital would not be complete without a a visit to the most beautiful roof terrace in Prague. So we had lunch at Terasa U Prince and took lots of pictures of the l view of the city. I would like to take you to this place with the most beautiful view in Prague. Instagram spot Prague Before our city…

Camping in Vienna
During a citytrip, the obvious thing to do is to stay in a hotel. But did you know that it is often possible to camp near a city? That way you can sleep in a peacefull and quiet environment. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city during the day and return to your campsite in the evening. Moreover, camping is often a lot cheaper of staying in a hotel. I went camping in Vienna and I am happy to share my experience. Where do I sleep in Vienna? With that question, I started looking for hotels. Pretty quickly I…

Cheap hotel in Paris – Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé
Are you going to Paris for a few days and are you looking for a cheap hotel in Paris? Then I would really like to share this tip with you! During a city trip to Paris, I stayed at Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé. A hotel in Montmatre, within walking distance of the Sacre Coeur and the Moulin Rouge. I really liked the hotel and the price wasn’t too bad! Before my city trip to Paris, I booked my hotels. Initially I looked through Booking.com, but found out by accident that I could also book hotels through Tui. (At first I thought…
